Welcome!

New Zealand Geographical Society Inc serves geographers in schools and universities, government and the private sector. Its publications are read by geographers and people in allied disciplines in New Zealand and abroad.  It provides resource materials for schools, and makes submissions to local, national and international agencies on matters of concern to geographers in New Zealand.  Its conferences help keep teachers and researchers abreast with current developments in our subject. Richard Le Heron and Ray Watters have been awarded Distinguished Geographer medals for their contributions to geography and society. Congratulations. More...
  • President's Awards
At the recent AGM 2009, President's Awards were presented to Harvey Perkins for excellence in graduate research supervision, and to Chris Kissling for excellence in geography teaching. Distinguished Service Awards were presented to June Logie for her dedicated service as Executive Manager for the society and her commitment to the society over a long period and to Paul Sirota for his services to the Otago Branch and his leadership in the branch's rejuvenation.   • Results of the School Competitions are in:
  • Maatangi Whenua was won by Shirley Boys' High School. The top individual prize went to Joel Rowan (Palmerston North Boys' High School).
  • The Year 12 Photographic Competition was won by Abbey Stevenson (Wanganui High School).
  • The NZTA Year 13 Geography Competition was won by Sonja Hempel (Onslow College) and Sam Twyman (Otumoetai College).
