Welcome to the NZBoGT
New Zealand Board of Geography Teachers (NZBoGT) - Your Geography Teachers' Association
Role
The Board of Geography Teachers is a subcommittee of the New Zealand Geographical Society (NZGS). Its functions are to represent and support quality teaching and learning of geography in New Zealand secondary schools. The Board is made up of a Chairperson, 6 regional representatives and two members representing Pre-Service Teacher Education and Tertiary Geography.
Activities of the Board
The Board acts as a conduit for information between tertiary and academic geography, geography in the work place and geography in New Zealand schools.
We advise and consult with the Ministry of Education and New Zealand Qualifications Authority of matters of interest to New Zealand geography teachers and students.
The Board supports activities and professional development programmes for teachers and students at the local level through either Subject Associations or NZGS branches. For a list of local contacts see the Contact Us page.
The Board communicates with its members and the wider school geography community through this website, regular newsletters, email updates and through regional meetings held by Subject Associations or NZGS branches.
The Board encourages and recognises excellence in school geography by providing a range of competitions for secondary students.
The Board has an annual face to face meeting. In 2011 the Annual General Meeting will be held in Wellington on the 6th & 7th of May. Throughout the year communication is through emails, phone conferences and a video conference meeting each term. Special meetings are arranged for members to gather at appropriate conferences. Please feel free to contact your regional representative with any concerns or comments you may have.
