Positioning Geography - Strategic Issues in Geographical Education

The Waikato Branch will offer an NZGS Geo-Ed Conference on 19 - 22 January 2010 in Hamiliton.


Positioning Geography will offer:
  • Pre-conference (19 January) field trips led by acknowledged experts in the field; the chosen destinations are directed to year 13 physical and cultural processes, and dairying at year 11.
  • A day long meeting (20 January) on implementing the New Zealand National Curriculum, with participation from the Ministry of Education.
  • Two days (21-22 January) of programmed presentations, workshops and round tables, with a focus on teaching and learning in secondary geography.
  • Participation in parallel sessions developed by graduate students, planners and researchers from across the discipline.
  • Contact with International Geographical Union (IGU) commissions on Gender adn Geography, Geographical Education and the Geography of Tourism, Leisure and Global Change.
  • Conference and resource materials on a CD available at registration.
  • A formal publication containing selected papers subject to peer review.
  • A full social programme.
Cheaper student accommodation is available on Campus, and University facilities will be available throughout the conference.


Cheaper registration ($300 + GST) is available up until 1 November, and the programme will be confirmed on Friday, 18 December, 2009.
