The Geography Resource Centre was founded in 1952 by Ron Lister to supply teachers and school members of the Society with a range of non-textbook resources at a modest price. Mr J Renner took over from Professor Lister in 1966 when the centre moved to the Christchurch College of Education. Mr Renner was the centre's first Director and John Macaulay joined him in 1967 as Editor. In 1975, John Macaulay became both Director and Editor, and with the assistance of his wife Joy, ran the Centre producing resources and sending these out to teachers. After 26 years of service, John and Joy retired mid-2001, and the Centre shifted north to the University of Waikato's Geography Department. Rebecca Grantham, a 4th year B.SocSci /B.Teach majoring in Geography and History, was the Business Manager. At the beginning of 2004 the Centre shifted to its current home in the University of Auckland's School of Geography and Environmental Science. Sally Greenbrook, a second year Masters student in Geography was the Business Manager. The current manager is Tina Fong.
